California Schemin' (2026): cast, story, release date and box office

California Schemin' (2026) is a biographical musical film directed by James McAvoy in his directorial debut. It is based on Gavin Bain's 2010 memoir California Schemin': How Two Lads from Scotland Conned the Music Industry, later reprinted as Straight Outta Scotland. The film stars Samuel Bottomley and Séamus McLean Ross as the Scottish rap duo Silibil N' Brains, who for three years pretended to be American to gain credibility in the music industry.

The story follows the duo's journey as they adopt an American identity to navigate the record industry, which often dismisses artists from outside the U.S. The film develops through a blend of comedy and drama, showing how the duo's performance and persistence earn them recognition despite being outsiders.
