UK police rule out probe into Palestine Action post by PM adviser’s wife

Key points
Sarah Helm, spouse of the prime minister’s national security adviser and a journalist, has not faced any disciplinary measures following her X post in support of Palestine Action.
On Friday, the Metropolitan Police stated that the post was under review to see if any additional police inquiry would be needed.
A police representative on Saturday affirmed that specialist officers reviewed the post and concluded it fell short of criminal standards. The police have decided against pursuing any additional action.'
Journalist and author Sarah Helm posted on Thursday: 'We authors in support of Palestine and Palestine Action, pray for our cause.'

The post was made in reply to a conversation involving Irish author Sally Rooney, who declared her book royalties would go to Palestine Action. In July 2025, the organisation was officially designated as a terrorist group. The UK treats backing the group as a crime, with penalties reaching a maximum of 14 years behind bars.
Rooney’s publisher, Faber, said it could not sell her novels in the UK following her announcement.
The police assessment concluded the post did not cross the threshold for criminal activity. No investigation or further action is planned.
